Five for Friday and some Freebies!

I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching with some Five for Friday action.  And I always like to throw out some fun freebies along the way!
OMIWORD y'all!  One of the activities from my First Grade Phonics pack makes a DIRTY WORD!!!

This sweet precious baby spun the word and says "TIT."  My heart dropped and my face grew hot.  Did anybody hear her?  The rest of my small group continued to spin and work, not paying attention.  Then she continued to say, "Tit...tit...tit...I think that's a nonsense word."
I looked at her and said, "You're right!!!  I've NEVER heard of THAT word!"
Thank the Lord none of the other boys in the group heard - they would have had a field day.
The "clean" version has been updated so if you've bought it, please re-download it to avoid chaos!
Fall is in the air here in the Tar Heel State and I was DYING to get some new centers going.  So I sloooowly am starting to put some new stuff at word work from my It's Fall Y'all pack.
For this activity the students have to find the two rhyming pictures out of the three.  I put the center into a fun Halloween bag I found at Dollar General.
And for a little something extra, I have them a box of pumpkins I found at Michael's and told them to put a pumpkin on the picture that DOESN'T rhyme.  By golly that made it ALL the more fun!
I have a bunch of other activities that I'll start to incorporate after we get back from fall break.  You can see some of the activities from this pack from THIS POST.

Work on Writing has started to become one of our favorite activities at Daily 5.  I always try to add new and exciting things.  Well, a few days before our fall break, I revamped the whole thing!
I have a peg board that is the focal point at the Work on Writing center.  I usually hang words to help the students with spelling, I hang writing prompts and activities...
But this particular day, I decided to throw some Halloween stuff in the mix.  (I was getting bored with the back to school decor.)  I found the garland at Michael's and the candy corn lights were $3 at Dollar General.
The clothespins were also a cheap find from Michaels.  If you would like copies of the Halloween word wall cards, you can get them HERE.
They got EXTREMELY excited but we were only 3 days from Fall Break so I figured I could handle a couple of days of crazy.
To add to the fun of Work on Writing I have added Sticker Stories!  Oh, the fun of Sticker Stories!
The protocol for Sticker Stories is you use ONE sticker.  Last year, I had a little friend use approximately 27.  And there was no story.  Needless to say, he was banned from sticker stories.  (It hurts to do that sometimes...)
Then, once they choose the sticker, they create a scene around it.  And they go to town with a story.
Yes, we are still working on putting periods in the right place.  Hey, the content was great on this one!
I keep sheets of stickers in a little basket under the peg board.  For every season I just change them out and they don't get bored!  Micheal's has seasonal packs for $1!  If you want a copy of the Sticker Stories page, you can get it HERE.
And lastly, last Thursday was my birthday and Scott and I flew to Alabama for the Gator game.  Not my idea of how I REALLY wanted to spend my birthday...but nonetheless, it was a good time.
I got so sick of hearing Roll Tide.

Have a great weekend friends!
and Go Gators.

Five for Friday and a Little Freebie

I'm so stankin' glad it's Friday!  Was anyone else's kids actin a fool this week?  Mine were CRAY!
Even though my kids acted like they had never been in school, I still got a lot accomplished.  And only 2 MORE WEEKS til I track out!  Woop Woop!  (I'm at year round school.)  So, I'm doing my usual and linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for a little Five for Friday action.

First off, I am CLIP ART!!
I had Nikki from Melonheadz to turn me into clip art and I stinkin love it!  I plan on using it for newsletters and things like that in my classroom.

I have some little friends that STILL can't blend cvc words (insert panic HERE).  So I started to use my interactive notebook activities with them in small goup.

For this particular activity, they have to sort the picture under the correct middle vowel sound.  We will sort the first day...
And then write the word the next day.
My higher friends worked on blends.

I have a ton of these activities that I'll be using as interventions!
We've been working on Narrative Writing for the past 7 weeks.  We have been sharing, conferring, publishing, revising...YOU NAME IT!  I saw this goal sheet on Pinterest and made it for my friends when we first started working on our narratives.
It worked great, and really helped my students see what areas they really needed to focus on.
Then, some of my students were really getting it, and didn't need this goal sheet anymore.  They really needed to fine-tune the components of narrative writing.
So I made this goal sheet...
I find myself asking them these questions often so I thought, let's make goals out of these!
I also made them a sheet to keep with their pieces so they can check off when they add them to their pieces.
You can get this check off sheet for FREE HERE!  Just let me know if it doesn't load like it's supposed to :)

We've been working on our word problems every day.  I leave a problem on their desk and it's what they work on first thing in the morning.

I pick the set I need for the week (or 2), print, and slice them up and put them in baggies.
When they come in in the morning, they have the word problem already at their desks.  They glue it in their notebooks and go.  I display the word problem on the overhead and we go through it together after they work on it for a few minutes.  We will be doing this ALL YEAR.  I find that if we don't practice certain skills all the time, we start to lose them.

Lastly, I'm working on some Apple Math Centers for my friends to review skills we have covered.  I have a few done already...

I plan on combining them with my Apple Literacy Centers that my students are currently working on for Daily 5.

Hope y'all enjoy those freebies!  Link up with Doodle Bugs and have a fabulous weekend!

Five for Friday! It's been a while...

It's been so long since I've done Five for Friday with Doodle Bugs!

First up: Guess who won the Boosterthon Poster Contest???
WHAT, WHAT???
We get lunch from the PTA!  My TA created the poster and he was on cloud nine because he, I mean, "we" won!
Last weekend Scott and I went out to the mountains with some friends.  I was carsick the whole time.

I'm a Florida girl.  And I don't like heights.

I'm trying a new classroom management technique.  I have a few boys in my room that are a little "rowdy."  If they fill up the barrel someone gets to draw a prize from the envelope for the whole class.  We've had four apples for two weeks.  Anybody got any other ideas that might work?  Or am I just gonna have to grab a bottle and hunker down?
It's September and I was chompin' at the bit to break out the Apple Literacy Centers!
I could tell they were getting tired of the same old from Daily 5.
I love September...And not just because it's my birthday month!

I have some little friends come into first grade not knowing very many sight words.  Oh my!  So I made an intervention pack to help them practice.  My kids ended up liking it so much that my TA taught my higher students how to play and they use it at Daily 5 for practice.
Some of the activities include Spin, Read and Cover.
Spin, Read and Graph...
And sight word sentence scrambles.
I also have them sort sight words...
And unscramble them.

All of these activities are included in my Interventions with Good Intentions pack!

Have a fabulous weekend my friends!
